History seems to repeat itself, and just when we get back to base an emergency rescue call comes in from one of our groups of stranded troopers. They’ve barricaded themselves in and are now trapped by the Empire and need immediate assistance. Barely recovered from our recent close brush with death we need to embark once more. We have a brief moment to re-enforce… Jyn’s blaster has seen a lot of action, and as she looks through her scattered things, she finds her old DL-44. She tosses it over to Mak, who could really use it. Only one thing to do, we have to help our guys escape, and get the data they were looking for!
The Force works in mysterious ways…
We landed in the middle of the jungle, right outside an isolated empire base, this seems all too familiar. We have the location of our troopers at one end of the jungle, they’ve barricaded themselves in and unfortunately we couldn’t land any closer. The data, which they failed to get, is inside the base, the opposite direction of the troopers, why are things never straight forward? As we plan our strategy we notice a Nexu lurking right by us, a while back this would have scared me, but we all know that these beasts are no challenge for Gaarkhan. With two blows and a feeble cry the monster’s heavy body hits the forest ground. We decide to split up, me and Jyn go for the data, Gaarkhan and Mak go to keep the troopers safe.
The Stormtroopers are already firing heavily at the barricade, breaking through it all too easily. As me and Jyn move past them we see them heading towards our guys. We should have stopped to fight them, but our troopers managed to finish them off right before retreating into the corner. “Should we stay and help? They’re completely unprotected?” we asked ourselves. “No let’s focus on our task and get the data, Mak and Gaarkhan will help them”. I start moving but Jyn still stays behind briefly to target the Stormtroopers, in an attempt to stop them from completely breaking through the barricade.
The Droid came out of nowhere; I’m still not sure how it managed to get all the way over to our troopers. The empire must have some new upgraded movement system. I could sense the danger and the imminent threat. They had backed themselves into a corner, and a rush of horror hit me when the droid blew itself up and took three of our troopers with it. This had not started well, this whole rescue mission now hung by a thread.
As I approached the door to the command center, it quickly dawned on me that my abilities would have been more useful back with the rest of the team. This terminal is heavily protected, and I would need someone with Jyn’s smuggler experience to break into it. But at this point it was too late to turn back, and Jyn was on her way. I opened the door and realised why it wasn’t locked; inside were two Royal Guards waiting. If I’d had my saber I would have felt safe, after all they’re usually no match for me. But without it the best outcome is to get away with as little damage as possible.
Jyn moved up towards the terminal, tired from the fights, and strained from rushing over. Despite this, we got the data easily, and quickly prepared to head back and help the others. But of course the Royal Guards were not just going to let us walk away. Knowing that she had the data, and reluctant to attack a jedi, they focused on Jyn, dealing her wounds and stunning her with their electric pikes. I wanted to stay and fight but had to leave her there in an attempt to be useful back at the pick-up point. I knew Jyn was strong enough to fend for herself, and no doubt she would catch up with us by the ship.
As I hurried back through the woods I saw that Mak and Gaarkhan were still fighting off Stormtroopers, he must have dispatched more while I was away. Not only that but the Empire had also deployed an E-Web Engineer, who is aiming right at the troopers we had left! They made a run for it, and in true rebel spirit, one of our troopers waited back to get the other into safety. “This is suicide”, I thought, but as the E-Web Engineer opened fire I witnessed defending like I’ve never seen before. Coming under continuous fire, our trooper moved like a Jedi, dodging a stream of bullets coming at him. The Empire was baffled and shocked by our strength. The force is with us, I thought; maybe we have a chance after all.
Mak and Gaarkhan were now moving back towards the pick-up point, working their hardest to keep the remaining troopers alive, but our hits were not as strong, and the enemy seemed to have upgraded his defenses. The Empire also managed to suss out where our ship was parked and intercepted me before I could reach them and help. The two of them were surrounded and with one man left standing, the only strategy we could rely on was for the force to carry us through. Gaarkhan wounded the Stormtrooper and as Mak tried to maneuver around, to protect our final trooper, he dealt another blow to the Stormtrooper. But it wasn’t quite enough to destroy him, and he slipped around the small defense we were trying to uphold and hit our last trooper, whose brave efforts fell just short.
Gaarkhan cried out and a deep pain pierced my heart. I saw Jyn hurrying around the corner, dropping the data as she struggled to get to us. As we scrambled to take off, we were lucky to be getting away alive.
