The Death Star has been destroyed and there is hope in the galaxy again, but the Empire is not yet defeated and the dark side of the force still remains ever present in the galaxy. Not long after the victorious rebels return to base, a new imperial signal starts broadcasting. Me and the team, Jyn, Gaarkhan and Mak have had little time to rest but despite this, we cannot let the Empire strike back, this signal must be stopped.
Bucket brains and Bantha fodder… Why so cocky, Imp?
We arrive at the outpost right outside the base, the air is thick and the rays from the suns barely pierce the dense jungle. We’re not sure where the signal is coming from but we know there are several possible terminals. There is only one thing to do; we have to destroy them all. We spot the first one easily right across us in the jungle, but it’s heavily guarded by Stormtroopers and the usual officer shouting orders from wherever he’s hiding, not to mention the droid hovering around. We realise quickly that we’re under-equipped for this job; we lost a lot in the fight to take down the Death Star. Jyn and Mak have their blasters, Gaarkhan wields his ax like no other Wookie, and although I’m just left with my staff, the force always counts for something.
The Empire doesn’t seem to have been as weakened by his recent defeat as we hoped, but what more can we do then plunge straight back in there..? We fight our way through storm troopers and a probe droid and manage to destroy the transmitter, but before we can retreat, the probe droid self-destructs, leaving us with too much damage, too soon. This is not how we wanted to start out.
Gaarkhan is the strongest by far and defends us in true Wookie style, attack is the best defense. The Empire knows this – don’t upset a Wookie – and prances around him like a coward, hitting him with one blow at the time, careful not to anger him too much. Jyn as always is ready to fight, but the Empire’s carefully planned moves renders her usual quick draw useless. In a space this small Mak’s abilities are not as handy as we’ve come to rely on, and without my light saber I feel weak.
It takes us longer than planned to get to the entrance of the base, the Empire is working hard to slow us down. He has time on his side and wants to keep the signal transmitting, all the while dealing us more damage. By this time, I’m significantly weakened, and Mak and Jyn are half way to wounded. As we fight our way through, breaking down the door, we brace ourselves for what we expect is hiding behind it, but to our great surprise the room is clear. We quickly proceed towards the second terminal; only to find that it has been reinforced, and again we spend longer than we want to destroy it.
By the time we start moving towards the inner rooms of the base the Empire is well aware of our plans and a new host of storm troopers appear behind us along with an E-Web engineer. “Where did they come from?!” we shout. This is bad news. We all rush to the inner room desperately trying to fend off attacks from all angles. The end is closing in on us, time is running out with all of us wounded save Gaarkhan, and we’re surrounded by storm troopers.
We divide our blows between the two remaining terminals and the enemy, desperately clinging on to the strength we have left, but one unsuccessful hit after another and we are starting to lose hope. As Gaarkhan goes to smash the last terminal with his ax, we can all see that he’s close to exhaustion. He needs to heal, “Don’t worry” we say, “we’ll deal with the transmitter! If they hit you we’re all lost!”. He looks at us in hesitation, he knows he can destroy the transmitter, but risking himself and the mission is not worth it, he rests.
With one transmitter left I take a chance and attack it. I realise I’ve failed and the troopers keep firing, targeting Gaarkhan and leaving him and Jyn defending while Mak has a go targeting the terminal. One last attempt we think in unison before we have to abandon the mission and flee. In a stroke of luck Mak’s aim seems to have done it and the last transmitter is destroyed. A very close call, but job is done we can finally get away from here!
